Pictures of 'Devil May Care'

Director's Note: This is my first directing role. Although
I have been in amateur dramatics for twenty-one years, I have
never felt confident to undertake the task. A comment to me by
the chairman "do you know the play 'Devil May Care'"?
had me saying "yes, and I think I could direct it".
So here I am. I was involved in the play in 1988 at Burwell,
when I took the part of 'Virginia'. As I knew the play, I felt
it was a good place to start my directing.
My enthusiasm carried me through the auditions, drawing up
the first rehearsal schedule, first thoughts on music, set and
costume. It was not until the first rehearsal that I realised
the daunting task of being responsible for a total cast of twenty!
The cast, stage crew and the committee have carried me through.
The cast punctual, attentive and patient (even when I kept changing
my mind). I have had a thoroughly enjoyable twelve weeks or so
with them. They have worked very hard and I hope you enjoy our
production this evening.
The action takes place on the French Riviera in the summer
of 1959. (The year the Director was born.)
